07/27/2015

07/26/2015: The Australian Army’s 2nd Division marked its centenary with a national parade at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra on Friday, 24 July 2015.

More than 300 soldiers travelled across Australia to take part in the parade, which displayed the colours, guidons and banners of 2nd Division brigades and direct command units.

The parade was reviewed by His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove, Governor-General of Australia, and was attended by Lieutenant General Angus Campbell, Chief of Army, and Major General Stephen Porter, Commander of 2nd Division.

2nd Division was first raised in Egypt on 26 July 1915 and deployed to Gallipoli later that year.

It went on to become the first Australian Army division to join the battle on the Western Front in 1916. Today, 2nd Division commands all the Army Reserve brigades across Australia.
