AAVs Take Marines From Ship to Shore….and More

01/29/2013: The amphibious assault vehicle can move Marines from ship to shore in bad weather and support them with fire and transportation.

The Marines are looking for a new amphibious vehicle, notably after their planned replacement vehicle was cancelled.

But a key consideration is the range and speed of the replacement vehicle.

Is it of higher speed and greater range launched from amphibious ships, or do the new aviation assets allow those vehicles to be launched closer to shore and at slower speeds after aviation assets have shaped the landing area?
