A long-time analyst of global defense issues, he has worked in the U.S. government and several think tanks, including the Center for Naval Analysis and the Institute for Defense Analysis. He is a Columbia University alumni, where he taught and worked for several years at the Research Institute of International Change, a think tank founded by Dr. Brzezinski. He is a frequent op-ed contributor to the defense press, and has written several books on international security issues. He is a regular contributor to Breaking Defense and is a member of the Board of Contributors. His most recent book (with Ed Timperlake and Richard Weitz) is entitled Rebuilding American Military Power in the Pacific: A 21st Century Strategy. He has received various academic research grants as well from various foundations, including the Thyssen Foundation, the United States Institute for Peace, etc.

The Honorable Edward Timperlake is the former Director Technology Assessment, International Technology Security, Office of the Secretary of Defense, and served on the Board of The Vietnam Children’s fund a pro-bono project that has built 48 Elementary Schools in Vietnam. Previous positions include serving on the Professional Staff, House Committee on Rules focusing on illegal foreign campaign donations to the American political process. As an Assistant Secretary, Department of Veterans Affairs, he was a member of The White House Desert Shield/Desert Storm Communications Task Force. He created the “TASCFORM” analytical methodology for measuring the modernization rate of military aircraft world wide for both The Director Net Assessment and Central Intelligence Agency, and was Principal Director Mobilization Planning and Requirements/OSD in President Reagan’s first term. His Bachelor of Science is from the US Naval Academy, and MBA from Cornell University. He is a carrier qualified US Marine Fighter Pilot finishing his tour as Commanding Officer VMFA-321. He co-authored the New York Times Best Seller, Year of the Rat, along with co-authoring Red Dragon Rising and Showdown.
- Dr. Richard Weitz, senior analyst, Second Line of Defense, and geo-political analyst.
Dr. Weitz is a Senior Fellow and Director of the Center for Political-Military Analysis at Hudson Institute. His current research includes regional security developments relating to Europe, Eurasia, and East Asia as well as U.S. foreign, defense, homeland security, and WMD nonproliferation policies. Dr. Weitz also is a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Project on National Security Reform (PNSR), where he overseas case study research, and a non-resident Senior Fellow at the Center for a New American Security (CNAS), where he contributes to various defense projects.

A defense analyst based in Paris, France, and Arlington, Virginia (USA), she has worked in the French government and various think tanks both in France and the United States. In the past twelve years, she has been writing for the French defense international newsletter TTU, as well as the British publication Military Logistics International. She received her training at Sciences Po and Sorbonne in Paris and Georgetown University in Washington, D.C.. She has written several articles and books on defense issues in both English and French. She is the Editor-in-Chief of Soutien Logistique Defense.

Caroline is a registered nurse (RN): she obtained her Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) at the Shenandoah University in 2005 and follows operational medecine issues for SLD; in addition, she is in charge of the photobriefs’ section.
