Second Line of Defense is publishing the first book on the maintenance revolution generated by the F-35. The Second Line of Defense staff conducted several interviews and visited various F-35 facilities to discuss with practioners the evolution of the maintenance approach.
The F-35 is the first combat aircraft designed with maintainability as part of the con-ops of the airplane. Increased ability to share maintenance practices across the services and the partners, as well as common parts provisions, are at the heart of enabling the aircraft to operate globally and more efficiently and effectively.
The book looks at the key elements of the cultural shift associated with the F-35 maintenance paradigm and the potential impact on combat capabilities.
