11/01/2016: Australian Army soldiers from 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment, put the new Mark 47 L40-2 lightweight automatic grenade launcher through its paces during a live-fire training activity at the Joint Proof and Experimental Establishment near Port Wakefield, South Australia, in September 2016.

The live-fire training activity is part of the ongoing LAND 40 Phase 2 acceptance testing and evaluation process.

The Mk47 grenade launcher is a state-of-the-art system with an integrated fire control system, capable of launching smart and unguided rounds.

The Mk47 grenade launcher is expected to enter service with the Australian Army and Royal Australian Air Force in November 2016. 1st Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (1 RAR), is an Australian Army light infantry battalion based at Lavarack Barracks in Townsville, Queensland, where 1 RAR is part of 3rd Brigade.
