USS Ronald Reagan Prepares For Deployment

10/29/2010 – Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) is currently completing carrier qualifications and flight deck certifications. These photos show some of those qualifications involving F-18s.

  • The first photo shows an F/A-18C Super Hornet assigned to the Death Rattlers of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 323 preparing to land on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).
  • The second photo shows Lt. Jacob Rose, a pilot assigned to the Blue Diamonds of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 146, prepareing to trap an F/A-18C Super Hornet on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).
  • The third photo shows an F/A-18C Hornet from the Death Rattlers of Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 323 performing a touch-and-go on board the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76). Navy pilots practice touch-and-go maneuvers to hone their skills should they not catch an arresting wire while attempting to land on board an aircraft carrier.
  • The final photo shows an F/A-18E Super Hornet assigned to the Argonauts of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 147 landing on the flight deck of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76).
